Every year, the WSOP experiments with either new events or gimmick events. This year, there are several new events, including the first $300 pricing point in the event’s history. Among the new tournaments being held this year are a $1,500 Badugi Event and a $1,500 Big O event. Both games have been featured in either mixed games or Dealer’s Choice formats in the past, but they finally get their own standalone event.

Other additions to the schedule include a $1,500 Short Deck NL Hold’em and a $600 Ultra Stack event. Short Deck has been offered at a $10k buy-in in the past, but this is the first standalone event at a lower pricing point. For the Ultra Stack tournament, players will get 60,000 chips to start the event.
Other events returning to the schedule after a hiatus include the $2,500 Omaha Hi-Lo/Stud Hi-Lo and the $25,000 H.O.R.S.E. Fortunately, all the traditional favorites from the schedule have returned, along with fan-favorite gimmicky events like the Monster Stack and Lucky 7’s NL Hold’em.
Main Event Mania Looks to Set New Record for Main Event Attendance
Last year, the Main Event drew 8,663 players. This was the second-largest Main Event in history. This year, the WSOP is planning on shattering that record. To accomplish this feat, the WSOP is instituting Main Event Mania, a series of promotions that should help shatter the record.
Below are some of what’s being planned for Main Event Mania:
600 Guaranteed Seats on GGPoker – GGPoker will provide 600 guaranteed seats to the Main Event. International players, including Australia, can play at GGPoker.com for one of 500 seats. Also, an additional 100 seats will be available through the ClubGG.net subscription casino site.
Main Event Mania Global Casinos – Various casinos worldwide will hold step tournaments that will ultimately award travel packages to Las Vegas and a seat into the Main Event. International events are currently slated for casinos in Canada, France, the Czech Republic, Uruguay, and Morocco.
WSOP.com 112 Seat Spring – Players can play for one of 112 seats on WSOP.com starting on June 25th.
A special promotion is planned for the series should it set a new record. Should a new record be set, players will be entered into a Main Event for Life drawing. All entrants in the field will be entered into a drawing, and the winner will win a seat in the Main Event for the next 30 years. This is worth $300,000 in total buy-ins.
The full schedule of events can be found at WSOP.com, along with all details regarding the Main Event Mania promotion. The 2023 World Series of Poker is shaping up to be the largest in history. If you have plans to attend, now is the time to start making hotel and flight reservations.
